Welcome message

Dear colleagues,

One more year it is a pleasure for us to introduce the International Symposium on Controversies in Psychiatry, whose 27th edition will focus on the topic "VIOLENCE and AGGRESSION". As in the previous editions it will be held at the AXA Auditorium in Barcelona on May 14, 15 and 16, 2020.

The symposium, raised as an annual monothematic event, has become a benchmark of European psychiatry. Each year the theme of the symposium varies, and the scientific/organizing committee chooses the talks and selects the speakers, who are always world class experts in their respective subjects. Each one of them present their personal views and experience, as well as the results of their research, in a completely industry-independent way. Controversies is the only event of its kind in continental Europe and we believe that the success of continued attendance over time validates its format and the proposed methodology.

"Violence and Aggression" is a topic of wide relevance in our society, but rarely raised from the field of Psychiatry and Psychology. Therefore, in this edition we will review the physiological and social bases of violence, its relationship with various mental disorders, its influence on people's mental health, as well as therapeutic management options and social and global interventions.

As the previous editions the symposium will be webcasted live on Internet by HD video streaming with the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers during the discussion turns. Moreover, it will be recorded to be revisited and we will increase the interaction with all of you through social networks. Furthermore this year we continue to let the possibility to present poster abstracts to any of you wishing to add value to our event.

It will be a pleasure to rely on you and your contribution in this and next editions.

Yours sincerely,

Organizing Committee
